Organising Committee
Tobias Käser (PhD)
Symposium Chairperson
Dr Käser is the Assistant Professor of Immunology at the Institute of Immunology at Vetmeduni Vienna.
He is an immunologist who uses the swine model not only to develop a vaccine against Chlamydia trachomatis but also to study the food allergy eosinophilic esophagitis.
Sabine Hammer (PhD)
Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee
Sabine E Hammer currently works at the Department of Pathobiology, University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. Sabine does research in Immunology, Genetics and Molecular Biology. One of their current projects is to study the impact of SLA background and TCR diversity in porcine vaccinology. Sabine is Member of the ISAG-SLA Nomenclature Committee which validates and assigns novel SLA alleles (IPD-SLA: https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ipd/mhc/group/SLA). She is founding member of the European Canine Lymphoma Network (ECLN – http://wp.eu-can-lymph.net/) which joins clinicians and scientists to set certain standards in neoplastic tumours research and diagnostics in companion animals.
Kerstin Mair (PhD)
Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee
Kerstin works as a researcher at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna | vetmed · Institute of Immunology. Her top area of expertise is H1N1 Influenza. Her clinical research consists of co-authoring 35 peer reviewed articles in the past 15 years.
Sven Parsons
After 5 years in small animal practice, Prof. Parsons did an MSc in Veterinary Science, investigating anaemia of neonatal roan antelope. He then pursued a PhD at Stellenbosch University, and this work, and much of his post-doctoral research, focused on the aetiology, epidemiology, and diagnostic immunology of tuberculosis (TB) in a wide range of animal species, including African wildlife. More recently his research has turned to understanding “swelling disease” of Angora goats. During this time, he co-supervised 5 PhD and 3 MSc students to completion. He has been an active member of the South African Immunology Society (SAIS), chairing the organizing committee of the International Veterinary Immunology Symposium (IVIS) in 2023, and convening the veterinary interest group of SAIS.
Eva Wattrang
VIC-IUIS representative
Eva is a researcher at the National Veterinary Institute, Department of Microbiology, Uppsala, Sweden. In 1999 she was awarded the gold medal for best scientific publication (thesis: Genetic and environmental effects on some porcine immune functions) by the Swedish Society for Veterinary Research. Since 2015 she has been the Treasurer for the Veterinary Immunology Committee of the International Union of Immunological Societies (VIC-IUIS)
